COPE — The Town of Cope has been included in a class action lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase Inc. regarding trading losses and their impact on certificates of deposit and other investments, the mayor reports.

Mayor Janet Joye at Tuesday night’s regular Cope Town Council meeting also reported the South Carolina Budget and Control Board provided information that the town had a 0 percent population change, based on the 2010 Census. Based on this, the town would be limited to a 3.16 percent increase of its current millage. The council indicated it does not plan to raise its current tax millage rate.

Cope has 77 residents and is the seventh smallest town in the state.

Joye also informed council that the Budget and Control Board will be sending an appraiser sometime in the next two months to evaluate the town hall building to determine if it is properly valued and insured.
